having trouble opening larger files

I have a file 23,840 kb in size which crashes inkscape every time I try opening it up. How big a file is too big for inkscape? In my plasmacam program I have files over 500,000 kb in size which plasmacam opens up fine. I am new to inkscape so I don't know if it is something I am doing or if inkscape really cannot open up sizeable files?

YOu can change the format of the image it may be set for pixels or inches, changing may help not sure.
