Assistance with Inkscape file

Post by Rickzink »

I found a Marine Corps and Army Logo here on Plasmaspider but am having an issue getting it to a file that is cut ready. Im hoping someone can help.

I am new to the plasma world and inkscape. I have had some success with a few things in inkscape but this has stumped me pretty good.

I have the file in inkscape to a point that no matter where I click, it says, in the description bar at the bottom, Path 5 nodes (or however many it has) in layer 1.

To my understanding, this all needs to be grouped or unioned in order for it to be converted to a readable G code. When I union it, everything disappears except the outer circle.

Forgive me if I am not providing enough info as I said I am still learning this.

When giving direction, please explain it like I am six, on top of being inexperienced, I also not that smart :)

Can you reply and attach the file you are working with?

Here is an example showing how to combine multiple objects. From your description, I'm really not sure what you are asking. But maybe this will help.

I assume that you wish to create cut ready dxf files from these? What size do you plan for your finished items?

It may be helpful if you could post the link (URL) to the original threads with these files so we can take a look at any images that were posted at the time. But starting with the Army file you provided, this is how I would proceed.

This is the best I could do with this one using the screen shot/auto trace method. I am hopeful that Tom will step in here and show us an easier method to edit/convert these files to a usable form for cutting.

Here is another one I found on the forum, and modified the stencil effect on the letters.
You could modify/edit to remove some of the detail on the eagle and have a nice cut file.

Please show us where on Plasmaspider you downloaded the files from.
It will be very helpful to see the original posts along with any accompanying artwork.
Thanks,
David
