Anyone experience this?
The shield deformation is from trying to dig out the stuck threads to save the shield.

It looks like you broke the threaded end off of your retaining cap. Perhaps some sort of lubricant on the threads would help to prevent this.

I had one start to arc out the side above the threads. I was having problems piercing and happened to catch it. Swapped it out and things worked much better.

I use DOW Corning 111 valve lubricant on all o-rings and threads.
I have been cutting quite a bit at 65a-85a lately and age of the the two parts are.
I keep one assembly for fine cuts and one for regular.
now I make sure I have spares.

I have never experienced that. Must be too many heat cycles and it finally let go. Spares are always good to have no doubt!

Same here. I've never had a problem with the threads in the cap.
