height adjuster for guitar tripod

Post by ggeh »

I have three of these guitar tripods and the plastic height adjusters are getting soft, sticky, and deteriorating. I want to make some new ones but Im having trouble making a 3d model. I have it rough dxf file I drew up and tried to extrude it but I dont know how to get all of the drawing to extrude. Any Ideas on how to do this?
Thanks, Gary

Hey Thanks Charlie

Bobcad came with my cnc plasma table so I been using the program exclusively for 2d drawings. I have since acquired a 3dprinter and now in the process of learning how to create 3d drawings. I wish they had this kind of stuff when I was in school, I am attention deficit so it takes me a while to catch on to new things. Bobcad seems to me to be a very powerfull and complex cad program. I will check out the video as soon as I get some free time. So thanks for taking the time to offer some help.

Here is a 3D model derived from your provided 2d file. (modeled in Sketchup/zipped to upload)
Maybe it is useful in some way?

EDIT: Revised model & updated DXF & pictures....also added Sketchup File
EDIT: Added .STL file

That looks fantastic, exactly what I been trying to draw. Ill see if I can get it into bobcad and convert it to a .stl, slice, and print.
Thank you very much for all you done on this, cant wait to see how it turns out.

Thanks Gary

Gary,
Let me make a small edit to the file first......I see I have the internal “bulge” mis-placed.
Please See edited post above for revised file

Hi Charlie

That is exactly what I'm trying to recreate. I tried to load it into bobcad, inkscape, Qcad, draftsight, and I even tried the free version of sketchup with not much luck. Cant find how to load an existing file in sketchup, maybe because its the free ver. Seems the cad programs dont work well together.
But thank you for all the time you put into this, it looks great.

Gary,
You may have to Import the .DXF file into BobCAD.

The Sketchup file is Version 2019, I can save to an earlier version for you if that helps. Just let me know.

I uploaded an .STL file about an hour ago, not sure if you noticed that (see above) but maybe you can use that directly with your 3D printer. (In Sketchup the model is a Solid)

Hi Charlie
One of my sons came up to help me get some work done but I was able to print the .stl file you made for me and it turned out great. I still dont know how to make it in a 3d drawing but Ill keep trying.
Thanks again for helping me out.

Gary,
That looks like it turned out great!
You provided me a very clean/detailed drawing to model from so 90% credit goes to you.

I think if you wanted to do more 3D printing there may be other programs better suited & easier to learn? (perhaps.......& certainly not knocking BobCAD)
I have used Sketchup for quite a long time so my bias would be to try their free version.(OK for personal use)
