Sapper School for Fallen Soldier- Please Help

Post by HomeMade Fabrication »

Looking to get some help converting one of these images into a cuttable file. This is for a fallen soldiers gravesite. Neither image is very clean. I've tried cleaning them up but this is probably the hardest image I've ever dealt with cleanup on.

Thanks

That's a tall order, I can see why this one was giving you grief. I wouldn't know where to begin on that design!

Here is my feeble attempt.. I hope you like it.
It probably need to be a 2 layered piece.

This one was fun to make.

Learn manual tracing. With many images you don't do "cleanup", you just manually trace them.

No idea what software you use but there's plenty tutorials out there for the likes of Inkscape and Coreldraw.

Powermax 1250 & Duramax torch (because of the new $$$$ync system, will buy Thermal Dynamics next)
LinuxCNC
Sheetcam

Nice job with the auto trace! I linked/joined it to eliminate intersections/crossover. But a great effort!
I would say there is a time for manual tracing, and a time for auto trace. This one is most definitely much quicker to do with auto trace.

Which program did you use for your auto trace? I am assuming Inkscape.
Thanks,

David, no auto trace here sir.. this was made from 3 separate pieces, Wings and parachute, castle, rifles.

I did make the piece in inkscape.

Are you saying that you drew this up from scratch? OR? I assume you were working with the supplied images. Please share your process here so we can see exactly how you created this.
Thanks,

found these through google image searches

Searched paratrooper
USAFSeniorParatrooper.jpg
Searched crossed rifle clip art
_24_crossed-rifles-png_212618647.jpg
Seared sapper army and paratrooper
442-4426533_large-patch-only-75th-ranger-regiment.png
Traced the paratrooper and filled in where the castle would be roughly.
Traced the red image with the cleanest castle and broke it apart, then manually traced the castle and deleted the redundant cuts, bridged the windows.
Duplicated the castle, broke apart and kept the background, unioned to the castle and wings.
Traced the rifles and cleaned them up, unioned the rifles to the wings with castle
Manually traced the ribbon, found the font and used path effects to bend the font, bridged and differenced from ribbon. added the lines and stroke to path then differenced from ribbon.

I did omit a lot of detail in all 3 images though.

I think thats it

So all manual tracing, and no trace bitmap. Very impressive! I don't know that I would have the patience to manually trace these with Inkscape. I would probably use CorelDraw, as I find it easier to do manual trace. Nice job! Thanks for sharing a description of your technique.
