Here is your cdr file converted to dxf. Your file has many problems with open paths and crossovers. I have edited several of them. What software program are you using for editing your file? CorelDraw or ? You might also consider using Inkscape - it is free, easy to use, and great at editing these sorts of files.

The quickest and easiest method to use here is to save your image file and use Inkscape to do a vector trace. Now it is a nice clean file which may be ready to cut, depending on your goal. I have not looked at it to see if any stenciling might be required for the lettering, but take a look.

Ranier,
Let me know if you would like me to show you how I created your file using Inkscape and I will be more than happy to do so.

Hi Rainer,

Are you going to cut this out of steel with a plasma cutter? I ask, only because you want it to look good when it is completed.

Your file is creative, but I fear that you will try to cut it too small, and get a lot of undesirable results. The file submitted by another member here measure 30 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Even at that size, the graphic will not cut as you expect, because the kerf width of your torch is wider than several areas of the design. So you will experience a lot of overcutting, and dropouts that are not shaped as they are drawn.

It is important to design the art for the kerf width of the torch. In other words, if a slice in the metal is designed to be .010" wide, you will not achieve that with a plasma torch that cuts .80" wide, or eight times as wide as you desire. It is pointless to draw closed paths that are narrower than the kerf width.

A bit of editing of the entire design is needed, unless you are going to make poster sized shields for your club. If most of those paths are offset a bit, and repositioned to maintain the original theme of the Knight on the horse, then you will have a good cut file. Also, a wider offset of the lines will allow you to cut the entire design at a smaller scale.

Yes Rainer, I figured you were using CorelDraw since you posted your cdr file. Will you be cutting this out from a sheet of metal (negative) or cutting the individual parts and creating a layered sign (positive). My best advise would be to mount a sharpie marker in place of your torch and do a test run drawing your file onto a piece of clean metal of sheet of paper. How large are you planning to make the piece? And what material and thickness are you planning to use?

Rainer - I have not heard back from you recently via PM so I assume that the FineCuts plus correcting some of your settings has helped to solve your problem. Let us know how you are progressing.
