Hi Ironhorse, I had a look at the file and it looks nice, when I opened it in Corel it was found to have 56 objects and it should of had 5. This occurs when using some softwares. Anyone using this file would need to join line segments for it to cut proper. Some programs have a join line segment option and some don't. The result for me to try and cut the file as is would be 56 short cuts, the file is a good one and I can work with it but some may not be able to. So a good thing is that many of the files here have upwards to 1000 cutpaths/objects/linesegments and boy they can be difficult to work with. Yours only had 56 :D .
Corel X5 has a great joining feature now, I find it works well.
Find your file attached and cleaned,
I did not write this to discourage, just want to give feedback.

There are two ways to do it, the way i do it is to combine the image and then activate the node tool and then the # of nodes and subpaths will be displayed at the bottom of the page. You can count them up on the image to insure the numbers match, the other way is to Group the image and the # of objects will be displayed at the bottom of the page..
I use the node tool and select the image then I can see what my nodes are doing, (they talk to me)

I hope this helps, feel free to ask more.
I don't go to deep in Corel it get's scary, others like Jason (CMD)and Gary (ST) could put me to shame I am sure they may be able to shed more light on this.
Thanks, Metal Lee

In corel there's no way to single out open curves specifically (without programming) in order to count them. Usually, if you click on a (ungrouped) curve and only a small piece gets selected, that's usually a small open curve fragment (not a polyline), and you can usually conclude that all entities are small open curve fragments, so the number of entities is the number of open curves, hit edit/select-all then look at the status bar to see how many entities are selected, which total would include any closed circle entities.

If you click and it selects more than a small piece of the curve, then it is a polyline, which may or may not be open. Any time there is a combination of open and closed curves, you'd have to select or count them manually, if you really needed to know exactly how many are open...

Many programs have options to export DXF as connected polylines or as disconnected arc-line entities.

When it comes to working with DXF shapes, it is much easier to work with a few polylines rather than many fragments, so it is usually best to export DXF so that it has POLYLINES, not just arcs and lines, whenever possible.

There is a 3rd DXF type, that has polylines with splines, those only work in corel and autocad, and pertain to modern DXF versions since 2000.

You could either use external macro software to record and playback the correct key sequence, or write a VBA macro.

Of course, you'd have to hard code the destination path or use corel's default export path. And it would be easiest to use corel's default export settings for each format.

Because trying to interactively prompt for or set destination path and other export settings on the fly would make such a macro much more complicated.

I use Easy Macro Recorder a lot, for things like that.

Or corel VBA (visual basic for applications), if you know basic programming.

I usually just batch process CMX files, I never need to save multiple formats while I'm working on something.

I have posted a corel vba macro to do this, started a new thread for it
