Sorry I don't sell individual images. I just have too many to handle one at a time....BrianMick wrote:.......would you sell me just the raccoon alone....
I will make it a sample image then post it here, will that work?
Will have to do that tomorrow though....

Gary,
I got that silhouette from an image off of google. It had no copyright that I could find so I put it in inkscape and "dressed" it up. I had no idea that it came from you. Please accept my apologies.

Re: raccoons and hound dogs
Opening the floodgate to a wave of criticism, but here goes......
Here is a perfect example of well meaning people, unintentionally, but without thought to the source, infringing upon the rights of others, in this case an artist, member and generous contributor to this board. A guy who makes his living by drawing images he hopes to sell to the likes of us.
It remains a very simple, yet for some reason hard to follow rule of thumb:
IF YOU DIDN?T DRAW IT - DON?T POST IT?!
Draw does NOT include: copy, trace, duplicate, reproduce, slightly alter, yada, yada. "DRAW" means you, yourself or someone you retained, took pen in hand and created ?it? from the very beginning using your own artistic ability. DRAW is what Gary @ Signtorch did. COPY is what the rest of us did!
When we use GOOGLE IMAGES to locate this particular image it clearly states, ?THIS IMAGE MAY BE SUBJECT TO COPYRIGHT?. Following the link back to Signtorch's site and it clearly says the image is protected by copyright.
Sometimes we get so anxious to help our fellows (people we only know through the Internet), by providing an image, that they might just as well have found by themselves that we stomp all over the rights of those who deserve real protection for their efforts - the actual artist.
We just can?t go to Google or the Internet and copy any darn thing that pops up!
Ok guys ? BLAST WAY - how evil was I this time?

@ Mountain home
I was going to post something similar... And not to be disrespectful of the members here I am more curious as I have been in the gift/art business for more than 25 years and have had our works ripped by many other businesses in the past
I know a fairly large number of 'artists' that draw, paint, carve, etc.... and over 95 percent of them will start with a picture (usually not their own) of what they are trying to 'create' by copying it on the xerox to re-size it then trace, pantografph, project or whatever onto what they are creating
whether it be a hand drawn painting or hand carved wax 'original' ??? So does this make them copyright infringers ??? Anyways just thinking out loud on my part
And personally I don't have a problem if joe blow or his friends want to use some design that we 'created' for our business, It's these companies that rip our designs and have them done overseas that my gripe is with

Re: raccoons and hound dogs
Hey Fellows,
I really don't see a need for this to be a civil war (can a war be civil?), I appreciate the way Gary handled it, it was a humorous admonishment. I really didn't realize it was his but it is obvious now, isn't it? I believe in some way all artwork is derived from something else. I am not a good artist so I have to have something to start with. I can draw mechanical things "out of my head" very well.
Anyway, lets go about our business life is too short for this....

Amen Loyd,
I also believe Gary handled it quite well and professional. Brian you want raccoons? I just found a family of them in my cabin's attic you are more than welcome to them for free also,
, just let me know where you wish to have them delivered, yes I will throw in delivery for free.

Re: raccoons and hound dogs
NO THANKS PLASMA JOE.......Did you ever try to get an angry raccoon and her pups out of an attic? I suggest you never try......they get as angry as everyone on this forum when you post someone elses art...plasmajoe wrote:Amen Loyd,

Thanks everyone who tried to help me out...I found what I was looking for when (name not mentioned) pm'd me and gave me a file..........I think we should just chalk this up to another lesson learned and forget about it...I believe that gary handled it quite well and I don't believe that loyd knew it was Garys file...I to have recently seen some items on google that are the same but one is stamped with a copyright and the next which is the same is not...i suppose because it was posted by some one else....
Sorry for all the trouble I have caused

Kudos to Loyd, he's not perfect (neither am I), he was just trying to help, not trying to create controversy (neither was I), and that's all that matters....

Re: raccoons and hound dogs
yes, that particular image is as original as I am, it is the only one quite like it in the world, unless you wish to categorize it amongst all iwo jima images then only the scene itself is truly originalMountain Home wrote: I like many others would like to know where this line is drawn. Tell me if this image would be considered original art or would it fall into one of the other categories.
I do my best to honor the event, by creating not copying art, if you can't see that, then no one can tell you...

Re: raccoons and hound dogs
Gary, my post was not in any way intended to condemn, or talk bad about your work. I have one of your art disks that I bought a couple of years ago that I like and would not consider giving away, copying or distributing in any way. I do not condone using someone else?s copyrighted work without permission. The only point I was trying to make was to show Bob that everybody, professionals like yourself included uses different sources and starting points for their art. I was not trying to criticize you or Bob, just make a point.
