Help with post set up please .

Post by Sampson Jones »

I m using the mp3000 dthc + scriber post . My scriber is bolted to the x carriage only . The z torch is also bolted to the x carriage but has nothing to do with scriber up and down movement . When I run a test the torch makes both-the scriber and torch moves , which is the problem .
Tool plate marker #101 is supposed to scribe first as set up in sheet cam
Tool t-3 the plasma torch is supposed to run next .
But the torch makes both moves .
I set the plate marker up as a plasma tool in sheetcam , I guess that's right ?

The POST is setup so the Troch is the surface probe to set the height BEFORE you start the marker. When it sees the "plate Marker" tool name it sets the offset numbers into the OffX; OffY , OffZ variables THEN it touches off THEN it applys the offsets and switches the ouput and uses M7 and M9 commands. There shoul dbe an Option varabel to pick up the Z axis between marks but if your marker has a long enough stroke so it raises up when its off then it can be left off. The actual refrence move is a a function called onReference in the post and you can comment that function call out of the Plate marker or put in a test in the OnReference that says
if(toolClass=="MarkerTool") then
return

That skips the marker touch off

Still cant get scriber to work . Torch makes the + movement in this drawing then cuts the square . The scribe never comes on . I ran a simulation run in sheetcam and it shows the scriber (plate marker} running first then the plasma torch as it should , but when I take the file to the table the torch makes both the plate marker and torch moves . The scribe is hooked to out put 3 and when output 3 is manually turned on the scribe and slide work perfect . the Using mp3000 dthc2 scriber 2 post processor.

Do you have the scriber offsets in the post set correctly? They should be set for the difference between the torch center and the scribe center. Does your Mach screen show the cross offset from the square? If you have 2 different tools and the offsets are set it should look different than the SheetCam path. If you go to the MDI box in Mach and enter M8 does your scribe turn on?

I fired a small hole in the sheet ,then zeroed the x and y dro 's . then I jogged the scriber to dead center of that hole . I wrote those dro numbers down .x was -0.1017 converted to metric was -2.58318 mm [ i asume negative since 0.1017 was negative ] . Y was + 11.857 converted to metric was 301.18812 mm . I entered the metric numbers in the post . Now here is what I found weird , the job [ the square ] was laid out at almost 0 - x and 0 - y on the table in sheet cam [ almost home position ] . When I take that post processeed file to mach it puts the job at 11.857 from home ? I trie a negative -11.87 in the post processor but it ran the gantry [crashing ] the wrong way from home .

What does the Mach image look like? Is the cross offset from the square?

You need to be aware that that MP3000-Scriber Post is years old and not something written by CandCNC. You might consider engaging us on the Support Forum and give us mre deatil about what controller you actually have and how you have the plate marker setup. There are later Posts that better support markers , and other features. If you have the DTHCII model there are later posts that work better.

@djreiswig - in mach the cross is not in the square . The square is where it is supposed to be , but the cross is 11.857 inches down from the square , which was my offset number I put in for my y axis

That sounds correct. The torch (crosshairs) should move to that point in mach follow the cross. With the offset that should put the scribe over where the square will be cut on your metal. Can you single step and try to see what is happening? If Mach has the image correct then it should offset the axis.

On the test square I deleted the plasma operation and only processed the cross - scriber operation . In mach it placed the cross 11.85 inches down the table ,which is not where it was placed in sheetcam . I placed it close to 0-0 home in sheetcam ,lowerleft corner . i hit hit run anyway and the torch moved 11.85 inches down the table [y] and made all the moves the scribe was supposed to make . the scribe did nothing .

The part in SheetCam is located where the torch will follow. The post offsets the scribe from the torch x,y,z in the gcode. If you want the cross to scribe at 0,0 you would need to offset the drawing in SheetCam to account for the offset in the post.
If you put both the square and the cross back in and post process it and look at it in Mach, the cross should appear offset. It won't look like it does in SheetCam. It looks weird, but Mach only guides the torch. It offsets the torch to get the scribe to go where it should.
