My son mounted the sign on his garage ceiling by bending the top of the sign lengthwise, has the butt of the rod in the fish cutout, then made a small "U" out of (wood/metal?), a bracket, that fits behind the sign so that the flat part of the "U" comes down to almost the tail fin of the fish. When you insert the rod butt first into the fish cutout, the weight of the rod will cause the handle to rise (toward the ceiling), but by hitting this "U", the rod remains level. Try holding a pencil between your thumb and forefinger, pencil resting on your forefinger, thumb pushing down on the end of the pencil...a fulcrum.
