Hello from Yellowknife NT ,Canada

Post by Polargtx »

HI , I'm Mark from Yellowknife . I've been lurking on this site awhile and finally bought a 4x4 plasmacam . I just got it set up and haven't even cut anything yet. Excited to start being creative and making things.

Hi Mark - Welcome aboard! Is that a brand new DHC2 Plasmacam or one of the older models? There are plenty of resources out there for Plasmacam/Design Edge. Here are a few of them.

That's a beautiful table you've got there! If you don't already have them, the "must have" upgrades are Advanced Design, Advanced Machine Control, and Advanced Height Control. These are well worth the additional cost.

Here is a video explaining what each upgrade includes.

Mark - the Video Manual is also a great source for learning the Design Edge program as well as strategies for setting up and running the machine. Also, when I first set up my DHC2 I made a sharpie mount and installed it in place of the torch so I could do some testing of my programs without wasting any actual sheet metal. Instead I was drawing on either the sheet metal or some paper taped to the sheet metal. This can be a very handy approach - since it allows you to concentrate on learning the program and creating cut paths without needing to worry about the actual cutting process and all the associated settings.

If you get a white board and use dry erase markers instead of the sharpie, you can just erase it and start over.
