Re: Finding kenworth templates
Here is an example a truck that if cut "as-is" will loose some of the parts. They would fall out when cut.Damo85 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:07 amIf i buy one of these designs how would i convert it so i could cut on plasma without it all falling out?acourtjester wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:52 pm https://www.etsy.com/search?q=kenworth% ... th%20truck
You would need to edit the drawing and bridge some of the parts so that they stay attached.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
You can use Inkscape or which ever vector editing program you are familiar with to make the edits as I have shown above.Damo85 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:07 amIf i buy one of these designs how would i convert it so i could cut on plasma without it all falling out?acourtjester wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:52 pm https://www.etsy.com/search?q=kenworth% ... th%20truck
The result should be that all the parts stay attached when cut.
If you have a particular truck drawing that you want to use, upload it here and I will take a look and give you some ideas of how to proceed with your editing.

Here is the one I modified above. You can open it with your cad program to take a look. Ask questions if you need help.

You are welcome. Happy to help.
That one looks nice! It looks like you are going with a layered approach.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
If you cut part is on the front, and you have attached it to a backer piece (the red piece behind your cut piece) then this would be considered a "layered" sign or part. So two layers, the front piece that you show in bare metal, and the backer piece that is red in color. Depending on the look you are going for, you may choose to paint both layers for the best end result.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
But if you are wanting to cut any of this out of a fire pit, then you wouldn't have the backer - but you still want all the parts to stay attached so nothing falls out when cut. Sometimes when you have a complex part (not for a fire pit, but maybe a sign or logo to mount on a wall) you will cut out some of the parts separately and then mount them to a backer piece after painting.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
Thanks for explaining, have a backer piece sounds like a good idea. The red in my picture was just a welding screen i was holding it up to.adbuch wrote: wrote: But if you are wanting to cut any of this out of a fire pit, then you

Re: Finding kenworth templates
If you were cutting this out of the side of a fire pit, then you would want to make sure you had enough material attaching the center pieces so they don't get damaged by heat or being hit with wood or logs. My example shows that these areas are weak (as I have drawn them) and would need to be beefed up and perhaps some other "bridges" added to help strengthen it up.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
This is what it would look like when cut with your current file. I am not sure if that is what you have intended, I would have thought you would have cut out more of the features of the truck with larger openings.

Re: Finding kenworth templates
The original was intended to be cut as a "positive". Once you draw a box around it, everything changes and you will need to take that into account. Why don't you take a stab at it and show us what you come up with. This will provide a better learning experience for you than if I do it for you. Be sure to ask if you get stumped or have questions.
