powermax 105 does not power on

Post by Kj6bab »

I have a affinity for purchasing non working welding equipment and last night a powermax 105 popped up on offerup for $500 that came with both machine and hand torches and a good amount of consumables, worst case scenario and its trashed I know I can part it out for what I am in it. I haven't even unloaded from my truck yet, I am getting ready to head to my shop to tinker with it. The person I purchased it from seemed honest and they told me that 2 weeks ago they got to their shop in the morning and went to fire their table up and the plasma cutter wouldn't power on and they needed to get up and running again because they were in the middle of a job so that day their local welding supply had a 105 sync in stock so they didn't do any troubleshooting on the old one.

I have very little experience with hypertherm and I am wondering if there is any common problems known to cause it not to power up or any specific things to check for and look at. I have no problem repairing boards as long as I can determine what failed and I have a hakko hot air smd rework station so replacing components is not a issue if I can source suitable replacement components.

Looks like troubleshooting starts on 8-36.
Hopefully that gets you started.

Great deal for $500. No common issues I can think of for a no power up situation but should be fun to dig into. Curious what you find out. Best of luck!
