new to cnc
hey everyone, I am just entering the CNC world, i got into welding in high school and never looked back. I was in the Union Ironworkers local 377 San Francisco for almost 10 years, I was a production welder. I now live in Utah running a small weld shop with my father-in-law, I bought an arc droid so i can learn on a small scale but hope to move up to a full-size table eventually. i hope learn this side of the steel world with your help and advice, constructive criticism I welcomed.

Re: new to cnc
Welcome to the forum. I am pretty new to CNC and have found lots of value in these forums. I have seen those ArcDroids and have a friend that is getting one. They look pretty slick and the idea of being portable is the best selling point for them. I have the Langmuir table which I have found to be a great place to start.

Welcome aboard! Your welding/fabrication background will serve you well as you embark on your cnc plasma journey. I have seen the demo videos and the Arcdroid looks pretty cool and fun to play with. We will look forward to seeing some of your projects created with it. What software are you using (or learning to use) for your design and cam? Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists and fun to use. Inkscape is also nice for drawings and then Sheetcam for post processing to create the g-code for your cnc cutter.

Re: new to cnc
In Fusion 360, the error message: "cuts being removed due to linking constraints" if often caused by the specified lead-in length being too long to fit inside the feature being cut. Try shortening your lead-ins. It could also possibly be caused by a kerf width setting too wide to fit inside the features. If you show a screen shot of some of your settings for the plasma cut paths it may make it easier for use to identify the actual cause of your problem.Rootsnwings wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 2:35 am i am trying to learn fusion 360 and inkscape, i have zero computer experience so im getting pretty frustrated a bit, imtrying to work on a small project that i downloaded from here the moon to my shine cut but i keep getting a warning saying one or more cuts have been removed due to linking constraints. harder than it looks

Re: new to cnc
I couldn't get the original dxf file to work with Fusion 350. After linking/joining to eliminate unwanted crossovers and/or intersections, it now works fine for me. Here is the new file.

I learned a lot about Fusion 360 through Langmuir website and YouTube. Once you get the basics down you’ll learn quick. Don’t get frustrated, it’ll start to make sense in a bit!

Re: new to cnc
Here are some more details about the setup I used to create the cut paths. I always extrude to metal thickness in design space, then switch to manufacture space to create cut paths. I have my lead-in length set to 0.050", kerf width specified as 0.040", and nozzle diameter set to 1/16". It seems that every time I have been away from Fusion 360 Manufacture for a little bit, they add some new features and methods to the process. So it is constantly changing, which can be a little bit annoying and/or confusing at times.Rootsnwings wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 2:35 am i am trying to learn fusion 360 and inkscape, i have zero computer experience so im getting pretty frustrated a bit, imtrying to work on a small project that i downloaded from here the moon to my shine cut but i keep getting a warning saying one or more cuts have been removed due to linking constraints. harder than it looks
