DIY toolboard

Decided to build a toolboard for the new shop instead of buying something, will post pics when it's all up and done, here are some pics of the cutting process.

Neat you got a lot of tool, that many I'm sure you came out cheaper cutting verse buying. I'm assuming the star like things are knob handles, I cut some for a grinder I made. Some were 3-D printed too (red ones)

That's exactly what they are for, I built some roller stands and they are used to lock the up/down position.

Yours are a lot fancier than mine are, I like the plastic ones espeacially.

If you have a 3-D printer i can send the files, I used a 3/8" bolt so it fit nice.

That's one Heavy Duty pegboard! I will look forward to seeing the finished result with tools mounted for easy reach.

Wow, that's an undertaking and awesome idea. Hopefully you have a tumbler or acid bath to de-slag all those parts! Look forward to seeing it done.

I just put 40 or so in a pail at a time and shake it around for a little bit, takes about 85% of slag off, the last pic shows the parts deslagged. I know, I need to build me a tumbler...one more thing on my to do list.

Went back to the pics and ya it looks like your pail shaking technique works really well for those small parts. That's great. Another clever idea

One thing i started doing to deslag multiple parts is placing in the skeleton or tabbing them then wire cup while they're in the skeleton

Jason check out YouTube many DIY tumblers shown there and some guys use a Harbor Freight cement mixer for dross removal.

I’m an ammunition reloader and I clean my brass cases to a high polish using a 1.5 cubic yard Harbor Freight cement mixer. It works well and I run about 5,000 cases at a time with a 70/30 dry mix of crushed walnut shells and corn Cobb bird / reptile mix I buy in bulk cheap from a local pet supplier. Many guys tumble wet with water detergent and stainless steel pellets. I have no doubt this method would work great to remove most all of the slag and clean and polish up the surfaces nicely. I going to try this when I make small parts.

I decided to do the same but made some minor adjustments.

The old style plastic tubs I cut out of 3 and 2mm sheet. Folded them up to the required shape. They can be tacked in some spots for strength.

The 3mm was my first attempt but it is a little heavy than necessary. My second attempt was made out of 2mm which is much better plus I made some minor adjustments again.

Also made a separate bracket for hanging other bits from. Also shows how it connects to the board...both front and back views.

The slots are 40mm long by 7mm wide spaced 25mm apart from centres.

They appear to lock into the slot very well, and should be able to support quite a load. I will look forward to seeing some photos of your finished assembly.

Made up the mounting plate for the utility bins. Mounted it to a post in the workshop near some welding consumables.

Slots are 100mm apart.

Turned out pretty good. Still deciding what colour to paint the bins...might do a clear coat. I don't mind the look of plain steel.

Those look great! I personally like the look of the bare steel, and often spray it with clear satin Krylon. Keep up the good work.

Thanks David. Went with the natural steel look and sprayed them with a clear coat. Need to get more material to finish off the other 2 spots above.

I didn't worry about tacking the corners together...for what they will be used for they are strong enough as they are.

I only cut the slots which were necessary, it will stay just like that.

I have a few other designs once I get a chance to do another workshop extension where more storage will be needed. However, I may do smaller sections when the need arises for my existing space.

Nice work Mtw fdu, a (well thought out and organized storage/work-station) can save a ton of time, my only problem sometimes is keeping it that way...LOL.
