slat cleaner

Post by hardworker »

Here is a simple design that works pretty good to clean the slag off the table slats. its far from perfect but it certainly helps. feel free to improve or modify. i just welded a .625 solid rod for a lever/handle. finally friday enjoy the weekend!

I use a 2 foot length of three-quarter inch all thread. I run it up and down along the grates vertically, and it knocks all of the dross off and leaves the grate intact.

I have in the past hammered it off, which works, but I am not crazy about all of the percussion meeting the sensitive electronics.
This might be a great grate (pun intended) life extender, opposed to changing out my custom 1/8" x 2" flat bar grates.

Hardworker - this is a great looking tool design and I will most likely try it out when I get a chance. Thanks for sharing your work.

Grate idea! Curious to try and see how well it works, I too have always used the "smash it with a hammer" technique.

Just curious to see what everyone’s thoughts are if anybody has had a chance to try this out yet…?

I have used all thread for a long time to clean the grates. You simply slide it vertically up and down as you move around the insides of the grate squares. Just be sure it is long enough to prevent you from slamming your hand down onto the grates on the down stroke!
