New to the forum from Pensacola,FL

Post by MYworkshop »

Hey everyone, I just signed up to be a part of the community. I'm starting a 4x4 table build and unfortunately I currently do not have the room to go bigger. It's my first plasma table build and with little time for my own projects, I'm sure it will be fairly slow going.

Welcome to the site, plenty of DIY guys on PS and an entire section devoted to DIY here viewforum.php?f=103 that will be helpful. Great thing is once you have your 4x4 going and you have more workspace it will be super easy to simply enlarge your table. Starting out with modular in mind before you build would be a great idea. Would like to see your build as it progress's, have fun!

Regarding the matter of a footprint for a larger plasma table ... As I think about this, I am wondering WHY someone has not yet made a folding plasma table. It would seem to be a simple matter of a hinge at the rails, that aligns a gear rack or whatever, when it is opened. The gantry and carriage could be stored on the main half, with the other half folding over when needed. In fact, I am guessing that it COULD fold up into a tight V like a ping pong table, and set up when needed by raising the center to the proper height.

Why not?!? It is a simple matter of basic geometry, and the precision of the joint hardware.

I have seen 2 types of storage methods for tables. One hinged on the wall and folded against the wall when not in use. The other the guy hoisted it up out of the way above the work area of his shop.

Here is a short video on the hinged method with an electric winch for lift, movement could be via a hydraulic or air ram. I have contemplated trailer mounting this design or a roll out from under a false floor. This would be handy for remote jobs sites or allow you to travel with the snow birds in search of warmth for the winter months..

Hi Chris,

You are about 500 miles south of me. So you have a 510 table. Tell me about your software. Are you using DesignEdge? If so, do you have any upgrades added to the BASIC license?
