2 stage issues. Help!!!

Post by Lukemetalworx »

Alright guys, I’m still pretty new to adding powder coating to our business. The single stage is going pretty good, but 2 stage with a chrome base is kickin my butt. I will post my results and feel free to tear me apart please. One picture of hows it’s suppose to look and one of mine. Thanks guys

It looks like you may be laying on too much powder on stage 2.

Well it's pretty hard to tell from the image but it appeared as though powder was pooling near the edges. Maybe that's not the case and it just looks that way in the pic. Since you have this there in front of you, do the edges look dramatically different in thickness and color from the rest of the part or is it just me?

Is your heat accurate and at the correct temp for the type of powder your using?

I believe so. Both the pink and teal are 375 for 10 mins. And the chrome is fully cured as the base coat

Any other ideas from anyone? I’m gonna spray a couple more test pieces.

I find it strange that out outer edges look like a nicer finish and a more brilliant color. I suspect the outer edges get up to temp faster which could be the reason for this. Maybe you just need to get the entire piece hotter and faster for better flow out and gloss on the entire part.
