Deleting a line segment

Post by Fastyankee »

I’m trying to delete a line segment. Is there a trim tool?
In the past two cad I have experience with as long as the lines over lap you can delete the segment in between the two lines with a trim tool.
See photo the arrow is the segment I am trying to delete.

Inkscape works differently that some of other cad programs. It doesn't really have a trim tool like AutoCad, Design Edge, etc. What program did you use to create the file that you have opened with Inkscape? Here is one way to do it.

David , I was going to show a screen shot highlighting nodes then a arrow up to delete line icon which is what I would do in this case . My question is do you move screen shot to paint to mark up or can you do it in inkscape ? Thanks ,Scott

Scott - I paste the screen shot into Paint.net, edit/mark-up, then save as jpeg.

Scott - I'm not sure what you mean about deleting nodes. Perhaps you can show us how you would do it.

Scott - thanks for sharing your method - this is definitely another way to go to accomplish the same end result. I have created some screen shots showing your method in more detail, which may be instructive to those just starting out with Inkscape.

You explained it very well ! I usually dont use add new node or snap , I just double click on intersection to add nodes . Does not always hit exactly on the intersection but if you zoom in close you can get real close .

Have you followed the instructions I posted above, and if so, are you able to successfully draw your part?
