Hypertherm Powermax 85 Issue

Post by Dawgonhawg »

Good morning! This is my setting for cutting 3/16 steel with 65 amp nozzle. If I use a 65 amp nozzel I may get 2 cuts and the machine stops and I have to clean nozzle and shield. I can put in a 45 amp or 85 amp nozzle and cut with no problems. Do I have some bad nozzles? I even tried moving pierce point up to .180 and still have issues. My setting are close to book recommendations. I'm running a Powermax 85. Any help will be appreciated!

I cut 3/16" mild steel with my Powermax 85 at 45 amp settings. Be sure you are using OEM Hypertherm consumables for best results.

How does the torch get from pierce to cut height without a plunge rate?

Here are my Dynatorch settings for 3/16", you might have a bad batch of consumables.

Deezl, those settings are set in the cutting software (OP is using a Dynatorch table)

If you are using SheetCAM you need to look at the g-code for the pierce and the move from pierce to cut height (plunge rate) and the pierce delay (it will be a G4 P# call) . I don't know how Dynatorch handled those values but SheetCAM put shtem in g-code unless the THC is one that cannot be controlled with normal Z moves and G-code calls.

Thank you. Interesting. Learn something new every day. I'm just so used to Sheetcam doing all of that for me.

I used to setup everything in Sheetcam, then I was instructed by Dynatorch that the program does all the settings.
