Morning Dave,
An Inukshuk is a mean of communication for the Inuit people in the artic tundra. It is commenly used as a direction sign if you will, I was tought that if I was lost in the artic and I see one of these, follow the direction it is pointing in and it most likely will lead you to a village or a hunting ground with shelter. Hope this clear it up for you.
