Metal Roller - for fire rings, etc

Post by Copp3r »

Hey guys / gals,
I'm contemplating cutting out some fire rings for resale but one issue I'm struggling with is the actual rolling of the metal in to a "ring" / circular form.

What gauge steel are you typically using?
What are you using to 'roll' the steel to produce the ring?

Homemade? Factory made? Price of the roller system?

I've spent a fair amount of time surfing the net and the metal rollers I'm seeing that would work are BIG bucks... Being a backyard kind of producer I don't want to drop a ton 'o money on a roller.

Just looking to see what people are doing in this area. Why re-invent the wheel...

Thanks all !!!

I make my fire rings out of 12 gauge and roll them in a used Pexto 391 that I picked up off of ebay years ago for around $800. It is only rated for 16 gauge but that is at full 36" length. My rings are only 12" so it will roll the 12 gauge although it complains some. I powered my roller with a geared motor so that I can roll rings alone and control the metal. I think turning by hand would require both hands and someone else to control the metal.
Only other option is to not go round, there are some hexagonal ones shown on this forum.

I help part time with a small company that makes their firerings out of 11ga and I cut 2 pc and bend them with a small shop press so they are 6 sided. Most people really like them instead of round...you can easily take them apart and ship them.
Why make one when you can make 2

Harbor freight sells a roller that works well for flat and round steel.
