This one should be made with a router from Half Inch Aluminum or Acrylic, will fit the HF Lasers use a threaded hole and set screw to secure them, a set screw on the Torch, and this one mounts the cam for the scanner too.
Specifically the Supereyes B008 but you can adjust the hole to fit what you wish.

acourtjester wrote:Here is a laser cross hair I made for my table I have a Hypertherm 65 Machine torch on my DIY table.
These are HF lasers about $5. each no wiring needed, worked for finding the edge of the metal too.
Single screw holds it on easy to install and remove.

Just wanted to say thanks to Tom for sharing this awsome idea, and a extra THANK YOU BIG TIME for making and shipping me one of these. D

you want the lasers mounted at 90* to each other from the torch center
less than 90* (or more than 90*) and the lasers will only be right at one height
simple geometry

According to CAD the holes are on a 90 degree radial from the 1 3/8 hole.

I used Ogre's mount and modified it for my use. Image I am curious how you will get your laser to point at the torch if the holes are routed without an angle. I the reason for the oblong holes in Ogre's design is so that you can aim the laser at the torch.

Read, Read again...

The Lasers are the Harbor Freight Lasers that Tom put up (Acourtjester) they are basically round, there is not "Line" to deal with.
the lens rotates to align the laser line.
the others can be done the same way then use a set screw to fix them in place.
it ain't rocket surgery!

my bad, i quickly held the corner of a piece of paper up to my screen, it's definitely an optical illusion :D

@nacsfab: nice work, did you use the pc power supply too?.
i have a longer torch and have the bracket up quite a ways, that close to the material i can't see the cross hairs
if you turn the cross hairs you can use the lines to square your material too

anyone else have problems with water splashing up and making the laser line an inch wide?

Not yet, don't have them on for anything but alignment and since I am still using the hand torch (don't have a GOOD)
Plasma Cutter yet, the spacing on that bracket is similar to your "Long" style... So that should work, the Harbor Freight lasers are a little different.

Another option is to get a cross hair laser. One that produces a cross instead of a single line.

Mount it beside the torch aimed vertically down. This is a known and constant offset from the torch centre.

Make an on-screen button (in Mach3) that moves X and Y axis to take up the position of the cross hair.

This way of doing it is used often in CNC routers and the like. Works well.

Much simpler and more compact mounting method.

Anyone seen these lasers at HF recently? I can't find them on the website. Any other lasers that are recommended?

Hi everyone

only a suggestion, but I think they are far cheaper :?:
I intend to use a "Bore / cartridge laser" you can find them on that well known site (or should that be sight)
they run of 3x batteries so no wiring 8-) , havent seen any with cross hairs but a 1.5mm dot should do the job ;)

This is what I bought form my table, just haven't made the bracket & hooked it all up yet. And I found the 1.5mm cross hair laser...

you don't want a cross hair laser, but 2 line lasers similar to what acourtjester posted
mounted at 90* to each other the line laser makes a cross that will work at any z-axis height
any angle other than 90* will only work at one z-axis height

while the harbor fright line lasers will work, they will also suck up batteries
having the pc power supply makes it easy to turn on/off with the x-box controller
the m30 command at the end of every sheetcam g-code turns off the power supply

the 3-5v line lasers cost $2 on ebay, buy 5 or 10 in case they burn out
we went thru 5 quickly but have not burned up any in 5 mths

after lining up the line lasers and focusing the line we lock them in with super glue

this is the type of laser line you want, they have free shipping from china for $1.99
for that price buy 5 just in case (we bought 10)

Any body in the UK found a good supply for this :?:

How long do the laser units you use last, do they get covered in the proverbial crap from the cut

Has anyone run a laser pointer using the power from a USB port :o

on reflection and thinking about it after asking the question

probably not a good idea to have wires right from the cutting end going back to the PC at the USB end

PRETTY SURE THAT WOULD TRACK BACK SOME SORT OF INTERFERENCE AND MAKE THINGS JUMP

Maybe I will just stick with the battery powered option and avoid any chance of a hiccup :?
