Software or techniques for drawing words

What software or techniques are there for high volume creation of words/names without manual manipulation of artwork?

Has anyone tried creating fonts(or using existing fonts that are made for this type of work) and using them to spell out words or names where you don't have to concern yourself with the sign falling apart because it's not connected? Or part of the wording dropping out?

I'm looking for a solution where I could do 1000-5000 a day with minimal manual action. Preferably, the output would be a dxf or similar ready for nesting and cutting.

There is a program called "stencil font" which will auto convert any letters for any font to a stencil. cost is about $30.
It seems to use any font on your computer to convert. I don't have the full version so the letters overlap.
It saves directly to DFX file format.

Thanks Jester, Do you happen to have a URL for the app? Googling only produced fonts that I could download and use that were of the stencil family. I tried adding software, app, etc.. no joy.

You can adjust the width of the bridge in the letters I just did that to show ow if looked did not cut.

This is where the DesignEdge software that works with the PlasmaCam really shines! Their letter drawing software is magnificent. Fast and accurate. SO easy to make ANY lettering, as long as the font exists on your computer. Once you put the basic text up, you can stretch it in any direction, slant it, stencil it, mirror it, copy it, scale it, etc. with just a few clicks.
