Can anyone share the lengths of of the 3x3 tubing?
Thanks, I finally got my plasma cutter back online after moving and getting back into into things.

I noticed on your bender you have 2 springs is that needed or will one work?

Re: Vertical bender using JD2 dies
do u no where the spacers go how wide is it at ate base is it 3 1/4 I.d. there is a 2. 3/8 in spacer a. 4. 1/2 spacers I u have pic of how it all goesI Lean wrote:Here is the vertical bender I built, designed to use JD2 Model 3 die sets. You'll notice on the drawing, the hole for the main die pin is undersized--I did that so I could drill it out to 1.25" to press bronze bushings into. All the other holes are just plasma cut.
I cut this from two layers of 3/8" steel just so the holes would be easier to get good quality, but if you wanted to just cut it from thicker material just don't cut the doubler pieces.
The second file I cut from 1/4" steel, and it's to hook the garage door extension spring underneath the ram, to retract everything when you release pressure.
Third file (Word doc) is just a parts list to complete the bender the same way I did mine. By no means is it the only way to do it, it's just my way.If you use different thickness materials, you may need to adjust the bolt and spacer lengths. How do the spacer go I can't figure it out u have pics or call me 704-273-6194

Re: Vertical bender using JD2 dies
I know this is a super old thread, but thanks for the files. I just finished mine today. I only have a hypertherm 30xp so I had to approach it a little differently.first I marked all the holes with the the plasma cutter and cut all the pieces out of 1/2". Then I lined up the corresponding pieces and tacked them together. I used my drill press to drill all the marked spots to size. I had everything ( even the right size bushings and the hydr cylinder) except the 5/8 bolts on hand so it was a very cheap build and I learned a lot and got a useful tool out of the process.

Re: Vertical bender using JD2 dies
The jd2 die set I bought from jd2 has all 1” holes in it. I know the main center hole should be 1” but I guess I figured the others would be 7/8” like what we put in the arms. Is this correct or have they changed the dies? Can someone please confirm? The die set of have is 1.75” x 5.5”clr round bought directly from jd2.com. Thanks, Jordan

Re: Vertical bender using JD2 dies
i wanted to say thanks to I Lean for uploading this- i am in the process of building one. i received a 1" 180 degree die from jd2 and the main hole and the guide piece hole are both 1.25". i am putting a bronze sleeve similar to the bushing used in the main hole on the bender plates. below is a couple of pics- i did a quick mock up to see how things were fitting (my base plates are attached to the outside instead of the inside, and my die was backwards, but everything is working as intended)

Re: Vertical bender using JD2 dies
I think that's probably right--I know the pins are pretty sloppy in the die holes. If mine aren't 1", they're still quite a bit larger than 7/8".Wymanj wrote:The jd2 die set I bought from jd2 has all 1” holes in it. I bet you got a die set intended for a Model 32 instead of Model 3. Probably will still work just fine, with the bushing you used.pvanweelden wrote:i wanted to say thanks to I Lean for uploading this- i am in the process of building one. i received a 1" 180 degree die from jd2 and the main hole and the guide piece hole are both 1.25". i am putting a bronze sleeve similar to the bushing used in the main hole on the bender plates. below is a couple of pics- i did a quick mock up to see how things were fitting (my base plates are attached to the outside instead of the inside, and my die was backwards, but everything is working as intended)
