Post by dunnmfg »

I got this file off here and was wondering if someone could resize the slots to fit 16ga. steel. Thanks in advance!

Just change the widths to about .1" wide instead of .2" wide. It shouldn't take you that long to do. .1" might be to small depending on the bevel of your cut.

Just curious, do you want to resize it because that is the size material that you want to use, or because you want the completed product to be small? I made one out of 12ga and it was really small. 16ga would be tiny. If you reduce the whole nest of parts so the the slots match 16ga, it will be tiny. If you reduce just the slot size, you can make it as big as you want just out of 16ga material.

Im trying to make the head out of 16ga. but I want it to be the same size as in the picture. I cut this out and it turned out pretty good but was a pain to weld because of the slop in the slots! Just wanted the slots smaller so it fit 16ga. material. Im just to "new" at drawing in Corel to figure out how to make it work

OK , so how wide do you want the slots to be ??

16ga is about .060" thick

How wide is YOUR average kurf width (width of cut) for cutting 16ga ?

I'm not sure what my kerf is but I'm using a hypertherm 65. I think somewhere around .065 would be good! Thanks

Kerf width should be immaterial as it's adjusted on conversion to cut path/ G code

Actually kerf width CAN be important in your cutting solution. IF you are wanting a slot width of say .060-.065" then the cut would be a single line cut. Trying to make a SLOT cut may lead to a bad cut as you would be cutting a lot of air on the second half of the cut making it a lot wider than you wanted it to be.
