Goofy Question, But Not Sure How-Case trac tracktor

Post by TAP »

Hi again, sometimes I just dont know how to do things correctly..

I'm going to cut out a case trac tractor 14"x20", but I want the outside outline of it to be 3/8" wide boarder so it will show off the shape/outline of the tractor better at a distance instead of the normal plasma cut width of .043.

My boss wont let me show it because he paid $10 for the DXF and afraid someone will steal it..Cheap A**...

Anyway, does any one have suggestions, I think, IMO, that I could just select the outline, copy a new outline, stretch it to the 3/8", put some tabs here and there and cleanup some areas that dont fit because of the shape..

But not sure if this is the way to do it to keep it looking nice...

Hope this makes sense,

How I hate Being Second Fiddle...

Thanks,
Tim

Take a look at this. I did this way for the same reason. Send photo on how you did, ;)

I would copy the outline to another level and scale it up.

I use V Carve Pro. I would choose the outline and offset it the amount you want. I would probably offset in both outward and inward directions half the thickness you want so you end up with the correct thickness and delete the original outline. I hope that makes sense. Telling us your editor of choice could help.

If doing a circle, for every 1 inch in diameter smaller or larger than original, is 1/2" border. give or take. so a 10" circle and a inner 9" circle would be a 1/2" wide border.

If i am wrong please correct me.

If you have access to CorelDraw you just use the interactive contour tool.

Here's a video from Steve Goode that shows you how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo5F6ouLvvA

Here's how I did it on this one with an older version of Plasma Cam, not sure how the Design Edge software works. Highlight the outline - copy it on top of the original. Then use offset to make it smaller or larger. You might have to fix some places in the copy.

In design edge choose offset, type .375, hit enter , and left click your mouse to the outside of the line you want offset.....
easy as that.
