Need a circle converted...

Post by Scratch »

I'm kind of a big deal... A customer wants me to cut him a circle about 6" round to use as a motorcycle kickstand plate. It just needs to be one cutpath, in the shape of a circle, about 6" round. Does someone here have a 6" circle they can give me? Google is confusing, and even if I could figure it out, which I don't want to do... I don't know how to trace it or create one from scratch. Also, I graduated from school a while ago and have no desire to learn how to do this so if you could just do the work for me, that would be great.

EDIT: I did find this but it looks too difficult to draw...

Scratch, I would like to help, but I'm wondering if you are wanting to cut the black part or the white part of the drawing? Also, what color is your friend's motorcycle? :-D

I think that one is too big, acourtjester. And it's the wrong color.

You just can't help some people,

why just give him a fish when learning to fish is so rewarding :-?

Good luck with your next project Scratch but if your post below is anything to go by your doing pretty well on your own

I'd also like to know how others do it. I always feel like I'm too cheap. I charge by the square inch of the piece I cut, plus any welding, painting or assembly at $50/hour."

you didn't say the circle was painted

but I am sure this a little bit of sarcastic humour :?: making a point or something

Yes, this was an attempt at humor aimed at some of the people who ask for file conversions on simple, basic drawings without trying to learn it themselves. Obviously, I know how to create a cutable file for a simple circle...

Now if someone can convert this next file for me, I have a customer that is in a rush...

Howdy guys,
You just saved me from showing you'll what a dummy I am. When I saw Scratch's request, I was overjoyed by thinking I could finally help someone on this site, which has helped me so very much.
Any way, I loved the responses, especially since mine wasn't here yet.
Thanks again, Bob, the GEEK

You've been here a while Robert, a long while... So you know we are willing to help, today's society is so willing to share everything on the internet it's crazy! But people have to do their part too, and it seems we get an awful lot of people taking advantage of some of our help. If someone is going to get one of these CNC tables, they have to realize that they're gonna need to know how to draw things up, and trace things right away.
The first thing they should do is to do some research and find out what software to get that is easy, popular, has good support, and works with their table. They might already have it.
Next, watch some YT videos on it and cut some basic shapes.
Get familiar with something like the term "__________ BLACK AND WHITE CLIPART" on Google images.
Then, ask questions on how to draw stuff if they need help, like: "I'm using Inkscape and all of my tracings look like they were made by a chimpanzee with Herpes. Here's what I mean? How do I clean them up?"

(I'm not sure why the chimp had to have Herpes, but whatever...)
(I also don't want to know HOW the chimp got Herpes...)

I'll understand if they have a particularly complex design, and are in a hurry. Or they have a picture with a busy background and they don't know their software well enough yet, or flat out say: "Hey, I'm willing to pay!" All of those situations make sense, but asking for file conversions on basic shapes that should be easily findable on the retarnet is a little much in my opinion.

Maybe I'm too insensitive, but that's how I see it.
And if you have Herpes, I'm sorry.
That shit is forever and might not be completely your fault.

I'll be honest, I can't make inkscape trace a thing to save my life...I have autocad, and can make any ductwork you would like to see (if it is possible), and know how to import and image and freehand trace (trace the background image)...I've heard inkscape can make it easy, but the company I work for doesn't care about any art I can make...I make art because I think it is fun, and I get excited when I can share something people like...someday, I will learn how inkscape can import an image into autocad without making it blocky, but until then, I still have my old ways that work.

Hopefully we get a new table soon (they have been talking about it for 3 years now), and maybe it will be geared towards the art a little more. Our current lockformer table does not like images with lots of detail. It doesn't properly slow down for tight corners, and the servos drive belts that run the lengths of the table....great, fast, and simple for ductwork...

Scratch, what do you do over in Hudson? Have your own shop or? You're only an hour from my door :Like

This post and other in the past have shown that information is the key when asking for help. Doing research is very important, you may find what you need on your own. Either using the search function here or other sites like YouTube, and Google. That is faster for you if you can solve you own question. If not, it will be better if your question clearer, either with more info in your question, or more direction toward where your problem is. This is true with table problems, electronics, and file creation.
With file questions many just post and image and say please make a DXF for me. A better way to say is I am using this software and could someone tell me the steps I need to use to create a DXF with this software or another package so I can learn. Member here use different software packages so there is a large pool to draw from to assist you in learning how to do thing.
I am not saying you should never ask for help but give the people who help a better understanding as to where you are in the process and where the difficulty is. Many have posted clear and pointed question to lay the ground work for the answer they are needing.

Jip

some you can help
some you can teach
some you just better ignore

Maybe we are getting to old for this, we still expect someone to be able to do some basic stuff for them selves, seems like soap pod eaters are invading everywhere, and snowflakes are to be found around every corner, "Scratch", i feel your pain, let us try and help those with some backbone and real problems
