SVG to DXF

Post by srtstan »

I use Inkscape and Fusion360. I have converted many files to dxf and imported them into Fusion using Inkscape. For some reason I cannot get the autotrace/edge detection to work on this file. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I think the autorrace/edge detection is for non-DXF files (line drawings or images), it is used to create a vector image.

I opened your file in Inkscape and saw that it was a duplicate of something in the background which i could not see.
Used snipping tool to grab the image, saved as jpeg and imported into Inkscape then traced bitmap.
see if this helps.

That is a great way to do it. I have used that several times myself. Screenshot, use Paint.net to convert to jpeg, then Path/trace bitmap in Inkscape and save as dxf. While in Paint.net I often also convert to black and white and adjust brightness/contrast to a better subsequent auto trace.

I use Inkscape brightness cutoff for tracing as the edge detection will create 2 lines for each line in the trace. Here is a screenshot of a black heart drawing. The one on the left is brightness cutoff and the right is edge detection, of the same heart drawing. The brightness cutoff has a line for the outside and inside, edge detection has an inside and outside line for each edge. :HaHa

Tom - that is great to know! I don't use Inkscape very much, mainly because I've never taken the time to learn it. I do most of my stuff with Design Edge, but I use Inkscape quite often for auto tracing. I will try this out the next time I am working on a project.
Thanks,
David

Happy to help like many here just sharing info, Inkscape is just one of the great programs to use. You have helped many with the work you do with Design Edge. We use the tools we have and like to use. :Like
