Duramax torch cutting chart for Powermax 45

Post by acourtjester »

I am using a Duramax torch on a Hypertherm PM 45 (old type) do I use the cut chart for the Duramax for the fine and shielded nozzles for 45 amps?? Or do I use the cut chart for the T45M torch shown in the PM 45 manual??

Good question, I wish I also knew that answer. I didnt even realize the Duramax was an option until after I bought the T45m. Wish I would have known as I would have liked to have the option of the finecuts. I would think the Duramax chart would have been for the XP line of Powermax systems and thus may not be the most ideal for the older PM45 as it has less power. Maybe look at both charts and average them as a good starting point. Would be nice to have an authoritative answer on this.

This is a question for Jim Colt. My guess would be to try the specs for the FineCuts in the 45xp manual. Or worst case do a little experimenting. Perhaps use the cut specs for the old 45, but decrease the current setting and kerf width settings - try a test cut, and proceed from there.

Great find! I guess none of the rest of us bothered to search. Nice job.

Thanks Robert I had looked are the standard PM 45 manual and it did not show the Duramax torch settings. And were not sure if the setting in the PM56 manual would work due to the difference in power. But it looks like only 1 volt for 16 Ga. steel.

By the way Tom, it is suggested that for brand new FineCut consumables you set your cut height to around 0.075" to 0.080" for the first several hundred pierces, then drop back to the book setting of 0.060".
