Fundraiser/Donation Ideas? Toss out your ideas.

Post by martyy »

I have done donations and fundraisers in the past, but would like to come up with something different for the next one. In the past, I have done things like flags, smudge pots, firepits and small little decorative pieces with most everything going over pretty well. I would say the flags have probably done the best. Most of the time I just donate the piece as is and do not offer any customization for the winner/bidder just to keep it simple, but I might be open to that to some customization. Anybody have any fresh ideas they might be willing to share? The fundraiser does not have any sort of theme, so it is pretty wide open. Thank you -Marty

Have you look into attaching a router to your table and doing wood projects?? It opens up another group of interesting projects for you to look at.
Many of you current projects can be easily switched.

I have not looked into doing this myself, but have seen some of your posts on the subject. Main reason, is we have a handful of wood workers (including CNC) in the area already. I still have a lot to learn on the CNC plasma side of things... Appreciate you chiming in.

Years ago, they had a Johnny Cash themed event here in Franklin, KY where Johnny married June Carter Cash at the curch on the Square.

People did different things to commemorate the event.

I made a halftone curtain of a young Johnny Cash out of 32 individual strips of metal, no wider than one inch, and 72 inches long, as I recall. The strips had an order on which they would HANG and FACE upon 32 brad nails, to form the image. I donated the piece to a church, who auctioned it off for money.

I would think that something like this could be done on a smaller scale using wood or plastic, and a LASER instead of a plasma table.

That is a pretty neat curtain you made.. Don't think i have ever saw anything like it. Laser is out of my budget right now. Someday, hopefully.

Here is a halftone of horses. 156 strips 10 feet tall! I never cut the design, but I do have the file if you want to take a crack at it! The strips would be painted white and displayed on a black background. If I remember correctly, it is 10'x16' in size.

I cut Johnny using a 5x10 plasma table and a Hypertherm 45XP with a machine torch.

This is my favorite piece. It is Sandra Bullock, done in dot halftone. 19,640 individual dimples into white marker board. 11 hours of routering.

I have a LOT more fun with a router mounted to my Samson 510 table running DesignEdge software than anything I have done cutting METAL with the same table and software.

I am still scouring for an idea that just clicks.... Not really looking for something over-the-top, rather simple but fresh..
