Sharpie Pen holder

Post by CNC_rowdy »

Hi,
I'm sure someone here does, but how are ya'll hooking a sharpie pen up to your PlasmaCam to draw pictures, spring loaded or not? How does the height control work with a felt pin? I would probably be trying to mark on white poster board. Any info on this would be great, also any pictures or ideas to get me going in the right direction.
Thanks,

Check out this thread. Our own Acourtjester here makes one that is real nice!

Here are the instructions for the Plasmacam engraver attachment. It discusses using a marking pen in place of an engraver, and has information about the proper Design Edge settings. I rigged up a temporary sharpie holder and did some drawing when I first got my Plasmacam table.

Mount a tube of the proper diameter with a cap on the lower end. The tube in this example is just a little too large, which allows the pen to wiggle inside, causing jagged lines. A tube with a hole size much closer to the diameter of the Sharpie would give better results.

Drill a small hole so the tip of the Sharpie can poke through. Set "cut height" to about .015" BELOW where the tip touches the material. You don't need springs or weights. The weight of the Sharpie is sufficient to mark material.
