Plasma Exhaust Fan Mount

Post by weldguy »

Just bought one of those fans from Pspider http://www.plasmaspider.com/shop/vent.html and thought I would share the file I drew up to mount this fan to the back of my cutting table.
The fan really sucks (in a good way) and it came wired up, just plugged it into the wall. I cut this mounting plate from 14 gauge steel used self tappers to attach the fan and bolted the bracket to the upper and lower frame tubes. I cut panels from 14 gauge aluminum and enclosed all 4 sides and it is working great! Use some welding curtain to cover the open areas in your cutting deck if there are any and it will draw even better. I just blow it outside through a vent.

That was my concern, my old barn fan was far to loud and answering the phone with it on was pointless. This fan is very quiet and moves a ton of air. The air whistling through the door and window frames was the loudest till I opened the door to let it breath.

Perfect timing on the fan, I was just shopping ebay today looking for a used blower or axial fan. Not that I don't love having a quarter inch of fine black dust on everything in the shop lol. Does anyone know what the recommended CFM is for a table? I have a 5 x 10 Koike with downdraft table about 2' deep so apprx 100 cu ft. According to my math this fan would change the air about 15 times a minute. Is there any rule of thumb that others are aware of? I was told originally to go about 4000-5000 cfm but that seems a bit much, considering the Koike provided exhaust hole in the table is only 12" and any of the fans I have seen nearing 4000-5000 cfm have an inlet of about 18-24"
