What a cool item.

What did you run into, cutting that cast iron?

What should we look out for?

Details, please... ;)

It took me a while to figure out how to cut it. It cuts like butter once you dial it in. I cut these from the bottom backwards on a 45 degree angle. Very carefully chip off slag - there won't be much if you have the plasma set right. Then you need to coat it with cooking oil and bake it to keep it from rusting. The Lodge skillet website tells you how.

Neet idea, thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing the cutting system you are using & the settings you came up with?

Thanks,
Danny

I use a Hobart Airforce 375 with a Plasma Cam machine. I set it at 25 amps and speed of 9.5 ipm. Had to alter my table and build a jig with a flip clamp on each handle to hold them. I locate them on the top rim upside down and 2 places on the round part and a locator stop for the handle. They are castings and are real close dimensionally. Once you find the center of the first one they're all in the same place. Make sure your webs are thick because cast iron is hard as diamonds and will break easily when you're chipping off the slag. I use a plastic mallet with a small sharp chisel to remove slag.
