DIY Heavy Slip Roller
I made this a few years ago for someone that makes gates, he wanted to be able to roll 4 x 50mm box iron rails together so the curve is the same on them all. It does not have all the detail but its easy. I machine up two very fine thread rods which raise and lower the top roller. The nut is welded to the top plate which is bolted to the upright end plates. The rollers are very heavy wall tubes, the bottom two are mounted on flanged bearings with one of them in slots to change the pitch. The top roller is supported in double row bearings which fit into a machined sliding block attached to the threaded rods.
I hope it makes sense and will be of use to someone.
PS. How do I do a screen shot ?

Re: DIY Heavy Slip Roller
Where did you acquire the 3 rollers? Or is it just heavy wall stock?

Re: DIY Heavy Slip Roller
Heavy rolled pipe which I machined, about 2' long, machined flanges on each end and solid 2" shaft, I put a keyway on one end and left the shaft protrude for driving through a gearbox, to date he just uses a bar for hand rolling it. on the dxf I forgot to elongate one of the shaft holes to allow it to slide. It is a very strong machine and I plan to make one for myself.

Some Picts would be great, I have three rollers sitting in the garage waiting to be put together, just trying to design the framework.
Thanks, Metal Lee

I made a slip roller using this design. I altered it a little bit to accomodate the materials I was using to build it.

I have been wanting to build one of these to do the same thing. The last set I had to bend them one at a time took a loy of extra time. Time is $

I really like this as well.... got me thinking about how I would make one to fit my needs.
I see how the bottom two rollers are tied together to drive... but I do not see how the drive force is applied?

Re: DIY Heavy Slip Roller
I simplified the drawing . I added two holes 5/8 for the removable top plates, as in the pictures posted . Also so your upper roller end plate is cut at the same time , set up your cutting sequence to cut this out first . Note I did not change his hole sizes which are in metric

Yes, a picture of the cranking method would be greatly appreciated, also, how wide could you make this? Could you make it so that you could roll a 24" piece of steel? Also, how thick of material will this roll? Thank you. Steve

Rollable thickness will decrease with added width.762frmafr wrote:Yes, a picture of the cranking method would be greatly appreciated, also, how wide could you make this? Could you make it so that you could roll a 24" piece of steel? Also, how thick of material will this roll? Thank you. Steve

So is 10ga by 3 feet long possible with a setup like this?nalin400m wrote:Rollable thickness will decrease with added width.762frmafr wrote:Yes, a picture of the cranking method would be greatly appreciated, also, how wide could you make this? Re: DIY Heavy Slip Roller
This is just a guess, but I think you would not be able to do that with this machine. You would need something much more heavy duty. I am hoping this would be sufficient for 20" of 16 gauge, but I don't even know if that is pushing it.762frmafr wrote:So is 10ga by 3 feet long possible with a setup like this?nalin400m wrote:Rollable thickness will decrease with added width.762frmafr wrote:Yes, a picture of the cranking method would be greatly appreciated, also, how wide could you make this?
