That my friend is breathtaking. If I could do something like that I would be amazed. Fantastic work

The oval, trees, mountains & moon are the bottom (back) layer.6chukar wrote:How many layers on the 3d piece. By the way it is AWESOME.
The train & tracks are welded on from the back and the dead tree and rocks are in welded to the foreground, so basically just two layers of 12awg steel. The rocks were cut from .25" steel, then contoured a little with a grinder.
It's hard to see in the photo, but the train engine and tracks are curved away from the background about .75 inch.
I made this a while back, but I think it was about 44" wide.

Ya, you have to look close. That must be part of the extreme 3D look. Thanks for explaining.

Outstanding! How long does it take you to put something like that together, start to finish?

Drawing: 20 minutes, Cutting: 20 minutes, Mill-Scale Removal, 20 minutes, Welding: 15 minutes, Polishing: 5 minutes,Loyd wrote:Outstanding! How long does it take you to put something like that together, start to finish?

Patina: 10 minutes, Clear-Coat: 5 minutes, Power-Nap: 1 hr...Heck, I don't know. I started after breakfast and was done before lunch!

Packaging For Shipment: 1 hr., but my wife does that because I'm not qualified! (she doesn't like my packaging techniques...says I'm too careless)

Just saw your post! Patinas go on AFTER all the welding & polishing. That's the easiest part!6chukar wrote:Do you put your finishes on after you weld it togather or before???
