Hi
I am planning on making a fire pit but I am not sure which gauge metal to use. Any thoughts, recommendations?

Re: Fire pit metal gauge
I typically use 10 gauge or heavier. If flat bottom I used 1/4" on the bottom and 10 gauge on the sides.

Re: Fire pit metal gauge
I exclusively build firepits, and the gauge of steel depends heavily on your design. The majority of my pits are constructed from 10 gauge and some are 3/16" to make them very durable, but in my tests I have used 12 and 14 ga with no problems at all. in fact, I have kept my 12 and 14 ga versions for personal use to test their longevity and both are holding up just fine over the last year with many fires in them. Again, your design work is crucial, and using lighter gauges does require bending the material in key points to make it more rigid and resistant to warpage.

I have made a bunch from 3/16 thick with no issues probably a little thicker than needed.
