Loosing gantry motor

Post by fixitguy »

My gantry motor quits working. I ordered a new motor and replaced it today. I cut 6 pieces and paused the unit for about 10-15 minutes, restart the cut and the motor is dead. All other motors work as they should. When I jog the motor the computer screen says its moving but its not. any help?

That's a bummer. I am sure Tom will chime in with the solution as he always does but sounds like you may have a bad motor drive or bad luck.

Try posting over at the CandCNC site. They have a pretty good forum and updates as well.

Motors are about the last thing that fail and just won't turn. They are two coils, a big magnet and a couple of bearings. The best way to test is to take a known good motor off another axis and sub it to the axis in question. If it does the same thing its the driver or signals to the driver.
