Hello from Florida

Post by Gunny0628 »

New to plasmaspider. Been on the Langmuir forums for a short bit now. This is my current setup....

Langmuir Crossfire w/XL and water table.
Everlast PowerPlasma 60s with hand and table torch
DeWalt 60 gallon air compressor with dryer, moisture separator, desiccant filter
Mach 3 full version
Sheetcam
Fusion 360, Inkscape, QCad
Adobe Illustrator

I am very new to this and I'm still working on my settings. My OCD kicks in often and right now I am trying to sort out all my settings and equipment and create a log file for the Everlast 60s because I couldn't find anything that was comprehensive when I started.

Other than this as a hobby, I also work on a horse farm in the area and my wife and I run our own horse farm.

Glad to be here.

Welcome aboard Gunny! Little out of your 0628 MOS 'element' I suppose however this stuff can't be nearly as complicated as satellite communications. :Like You've come to the right place as there are many people here that enjoy helping others along on their cnc plasma journey. Just like you many of us, myself included knew nothing about any of this until we did it. From what I've seen the most difficult aspect for people to master is the drawing. Machinery is settings, nothing more. I have no experience with the Langmuir or any knowledge about Everlast plasma cutters however drawings are what I gravitated to and am willing to help if however I may.

thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm trying my best to take my time with this stuff. it's been a journey for sure the last month. especially trying to comprehend and put to practical use - photoshop, illustrator, fusion, mach3, sheet cam, qcad, etc. my plan for next year is to go with a larger table. but I have to build my knowledge base first. I'd love to grab a hold of a Hypertherm as well. from what I've read from a lot of people its the industry standard in plasma cutting, especially for cnc.

thanks again for the warm welcome.

Heya Gunny, glad you made it over to the other side.

Sounds like your getting a handle on this stuff from your posts on the Langmuir forum.
Folks over here are real nice and can be a big help.
The poster above is Ben de lappe, he is the go-to guy for help with design and cut files. I have hired him for a couple different projects. I mostly cut race car parts so when I want to do something artsy and I want it to be great I just send it to Ben and he sends back a very well done files that really "pops" and looks professional. The IM system in this forum kinda sucks on a cell phone so email works better with files.

Be sure to use the search function to find files you may want to cut, quit often the files you download from here have to be changed some to use them on our tables.
Fusion 360 does not import these files all that well but it can be done most of the time.
If you share a couple of your original files here you will become a "Elite" member and that gets you a spider next to your name. Check out the finishing forums. Some of the stuff members do with patinas and dyes are really cool.
Good luck bud,
