Hello form Sd!
Wanted to say Hello to the group! i have a small fab shop in the Black Hills. i have been doing plaz by hand for about 15 yrs and have hit the limit of what i can cut by hand and just plain accomplish by myself. i have been reading all i can here and have decided to step up my game. Im excited to be apart of this group as there are not many people in my area running a cnc and even less that want to talk about it or help a mf out.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Very impressive sign, welcome to the CNC side of things. I've made a few trips thru the Black Hills, very nice country you live in.

Hello and welcome! Nice work by hand.
Unlike your area lots of people here that love anything to do with plasma and enjoy helping a fella out. In cnc plasma it's all about the drawing. Learn to manipulate the lines, arcs and nodes in cad and you'll be able to carry your own style into your designs.

Thanks fellas! Im pretty excited about it! i have been practicing some inkscape drawing. (still have a ways to go) i do some computer drawing now as i use a digi projector to draw and manipulate my images. it serves its purpose but stone age none the less. I signed up to learn as much as i could before jumping off and buying something at first i was looking at buying a finished table but have since decided on a ppllc kit. Steve is this the unit you have?whats the 411 on it? The hills are an awesome place to live. I swear there is always something going on. It gets a bit crazy during rally though (my shop is 6 miles from Sturgis) it keeps things interesting!

Re: Hello form Sd!
My gantry was from Precision Plasma, although it is no longer on their website. It was Precision Plasma that led me to CandCNC, which was a good decision. When I had a problem, pplic gave me great customer service, which CandCNC also does. I used the pplic plans to build my table, which was a piece of cake to build to fit my needs. This all resulted in me knowing how my table and parts work together, which is a huge help when something acts up, which rarely happens.
I've been thru Sturgis a few times, so may have gone right by your shop. Small world.

Thanks for the info! This was my hope as well. I was thinking building it might save me some troubleshooting down the line. In some of my reading on here i see some guys talk of making water table sides a bit taller to contain splash. what are your thoughts on this? They would have to be broke instead of angle but is it worth it? would it affect anything else?

Re: Hello form Sd!
On my water table I made some splash shields out of aluminum flashing on each side, and removable shields on each end to contain the splash. It really depends on the design of your table as to what will work for you. The splash shields contain all the water, it's pretty rare for me to get even a drop of water on the floor.

Having the sides of the pan taller might make loading material more difficult. I think removable shields would probably help with splash without being in the way. I just deal with it.weldtheworld wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2019 11:27 am In some of my reading on here i see some guys talk of making water table sides a bit taller to contain splash. what are your thoughts on this? Thats a great idea! i was thinking i would just leave one end lower for loading but i have not decided on a final resting place in my shop yet so bein able to remove and move them would be way cooler in the long run without over complicating. Thanks fellas!
