Super Noob! That'd be me...

Post by subnoize »

Hello!

I jumped into this head first! I saved up my pennies and purchased a machine from AvidCNC. I got the 5x10 footer and the extended gantry. I have two axis in the Z, one has a CNCDepot S30C spindle and the second has a torch from a hypertherm Powermax45 XP. I use a crane to lift the water table into place and to remove it when not in use. Takes about an hour to go from spinning cutter to plasma.

I am very happy with the setup so far. I 3D printed a shroud that goes around the torch and reduces the splatter and the splash so well that I rarely see it anywhere but on the work piece.

The one issue is I find I am dumping the water and thus can't recycle an anti-rust formula but I think I have a solution for that.

The easiest process to run is definitely the plasma. Mostly it is mild steel at 16 gauge. I use the fine cut consumables and the numbers from the manual are spot on. I am still fiddling with the bolt ready holes though.
