Very cool.
Human faces is one thing I am lost on, I've been asked to do portraits but never know where to start.

Thanks. Buy the book "Scroll Saw Portraits" by Gary Browning printed by Fox Chapel Publishing. That's how I began.

While looking for patterns for jack-o-lanterns, I stumbled on instructions for making patterns from pictures. Darned if I can find it now.
If someone has software that works well for doing this, I'm sure we would all appreciate a heads-up.

I'm still looking.

There are a couple of good sites with instructions but I can't remember where. I have found Gary Brownings ideas work the best. A software called Coyote stencil is availible for a trial use. I wasn't real impressed. I use Adobe photoshop and basically Gary Brownings method. After a lot of experimenting I came up with a method that works real well. Good luck! It's not easy.

Fantastic Work.... knowing what detail to use and not use to get the end result can be tough.

You're absolutely right. That's the hardest part. You are trying to catch the essence of that person.

It's an ART, for sure.

Looks like you've got it mastered.
Thanks for the inspiration.

since I'm an open source kinda guy ;) i use Gimp to modify photos for cutting. It takes a bit of trial and error adjusting contrast and color thresholds, and color levels to achieve the desired result. Then, if neccessary i'll bring the modified file into inkscape to make a dxf file.

Very nice work Dave!

Thanks. No I don't have it mastered. I wish I did because I've had a lot of people wanting me to cut photos for them. It is so time consuming that they gasp when I tell them how much I'll charge. I tried working for free one time and it didn't pay very well! There's got to be a program out there that will do this quickly and nicely. Has anyone ever used programs that print photos on T-shirts?
