Used Powermax 65 or new Powermax 45xp

Post by xnaron »

I can get, what I think, is a really good deal on a used powermax 65 with hand torch and cpc port and 50:1 divider for about $1300 usd. That would put me around $1800 to $1900 inc the machine torch. The unit was in for repair and the company went out of business a year ago and never claimed it. It was serviced and parts were replaced and tested working. It will come with a 90 day warranty repair/return.

or

I can get a new Powermax 45xp with machine torch for about $2270 usd. So I am looking at about a $500 savings on a machine that can pierce 1/8" thicker material.

I don't see myself using the marking feature and the machine will see light hobby use in my garage. I like the idea of being able to pierce and cut up to 5/8". Aside from the marking feature on the 45xp is there any other reason why I might want to consider it over the 65? Any opinions appreciated.

Thanks

I have pierced 0.75" with my 65 by delaying the pierce time, if it has been setting there for a year offer less for it. I "think" the new 45XP has the option for 3 Ph. power. That is why I chose my 65 over the original 45. That option would cut the power usage by half if your shop is wired for it..

The advantage of the 65 is much better duty cycle and the hand torch will be handy.. If you have the power supply to feed the PM65, I think I'd get it if its in good condition.

More power is better, speeds duty cycle etc... I never thought I'd cut 3/4" but I'm glad I bought the 85. I've gotten several jobs for it..
If you dont have a machine torch I might be able to help you out. I have a brand new t60M machine torch 25'.
If you go the 65 route and are interested pm me.

I vote for the 65.Thats a steal. I bought a used powermax85 for 2500 usd and thought it was a deal. Still had to add cpc port, voltage divider and machine torch. You can never have to much power.

I picked up the Powemax 65. It was dirty but not abused. I did a thorough clean inside and out. I plan to get the machine torch but not until I confirm this is a good unit. I swapped pin 6 to 8 on the torch connector so it thinks it is a machine torch and zip tied the switch. I am the only person in my house that will use the cutter. I am using the CPC connector on the back to control the machine. I was lucky this unit cam with the cpc and voltage divider. I completed a few test cuts yesterday and everything seems to be working so far. The machine has 181 cut hours on it according to the service menu. Inside the machine the factory sticker shows it was manufactured in mid 2015. The price was $1325 usd (converted from $1800 cdn). This will make a nice upgrade from my herocut.

That will help you cutting, you know you can use an Ohmic sensor as they have a tip that can be wired directly to the sensor.
