New operator

Post by jcarpenter »

I got tired of running a torch for projects around the ranch so I picked up a slightly used Plasmacam 4x4 with a Hypertherm powermax 65. Machine came with a handheld and machine torch, the machine torch wouldn’t fire due to not having the correct plug installed, I have ordered the plug. Has anyone ever installed the plug necessary to run the machine torch?

If your Hypertherm 65 already has the CPC port, then you can purchase the correct torch control cable from PJ Metal Fab.

http://www.pjmetalfab.com/plasma-cam-ac ... play-cable

or Robert Johnson at Learn Plasmacam.

If your machine does not have the CPC port, then you could purchase the CPC upgrade kit.

This would be the simplest approach to get up and running with your machine torch.

Thank you I will have to install the CPC port, is there any advantage to running a machine torch on the table other than having the handheld torch freed up?

You can use the cpc port to control the machine torch. You can't control the hand torch with the cpc unless you do some modifications.

Jim Colt (and others) have said that it is easier to align a machine torch (vertical alignment to the table) than it is with the hand torch. If you are using your machine torch on the cnc plasma table, then you will have your hand torch available for non-mechanized cutting by simply unplugging your Duramax machine torch and plugging in your Duramax hand torch at the front of your Hypertherm power unit. The PJ Metal Fab CPC torch control cable is intended for the machine torch only, and will not control the hand torch for mechanized cutting.
