Barrel Train

Post by elkriverfab »

I had a customer request a full barrel train set.

He also wanted me to convert his riding mower to a train engine.

So.... Here it is.

I did all of this in 3 days.

Pulled a couple of all nighters in order to complete it in the time frame.

I am one tired Mo Fo!

The wife helped me on this one, Had to Get R Done.

The bracket right in front of the steering wheel is for a bell, the bracket on the front (nose) is for a light.

I used the cut sections of barrels for the engine roof and caboose roof.

The smoke stack is two coffee cans welded together and bolted with welded brackets.

All of the cars are single seaters except for the caboose, it has two seats facing each other.

Just thought I would share.

Thanks everybody for all the complements.

My customer wanted a set of the train cars so he and his son could start a side business offering party rentals.

I guess he is hoping people will hire them for events and parties.
I think its a good idea.

I just wish the time frame for building them was a little longer.

But you know how it is, when they want them you better take the work when it comes.

Three days of non stop welding and painting kicked my butt. No sleep at all!

On top of that when the came to pick them up, they drove into my place with two flat tires (picked up a few nails on the highway).

I was delirious from no sleep for three days and had to repair their tires so they could get out of here.

They drove over a hundred miles to pick them up and the look of despair on their faces being stuck in the boonies at my place with flat tires was concerning.

So I told them to take the tires off and lets plug them.

I told them to take it easy on the road pulling a trailer, plugs are no guarantee.

They called me when they got home and told me the plugs held.

So....all in all it worked out.

When you offer a custom service of any kind, you better be able to deliver.

Sometimes I wonder how I get myself into these things
