Soda cans and campbell soup cans would enjoy holding the advertised 2" thick steel plate I think. They might hold it better if they were unopened though as the pressure on the inside would help stabilize everything

Nope! The file is "TOO LARGE" for PlasmaSpider uploads. I tried to reduce it several times, but it is still too large to upload.SegoMan DeSigns wrote: Wed Jul 13, 2022 6:19 pm
To ashamed of your work to post a DXF so us aby-normal people can look at them?![]()

Re: You CONDUIT!
I dare say if we were to create a bank of EMPTY soda cans and lay (not DROP) a 2" trench plate onto them, they would hold the weight. It is about pounds per square inch, and an empty soda can will easily support A LOT of weight.cutnweld wrote: Wed Jul 13, 2022 6:38 pm Soda cans and campbell soup cans would enjoy holding the advertised 2" thick steel plate I think. In my high school, our science teacher wanted to teach us about the strength of a cylinder. We lined up a slew of soda cans into two rows, six cans wide, and topped them with plywood. We then drove an F150 pickup truck over them with NO DAMAGE to the cans. Granted, the aluminum cans were THICKER in the 70s

Re: You CONDUIT!
Question on your slats Joe,
You have the sharks tooth's on both side yet the assembly slots on one side only.. Will you be flipping the entire unit when it's time for new teeth?
Your slats are straight which can lead to an early demise with a rip cut over the top of them. The two major advantages to the curved slats:
1- they are wedged into place (less chance of material wobble)
2- the rip cut won't split them. I would also do a more pronounced tooth if room allows it, as they stay cleaner longer and the cut material is cleaner on the bottom.
My slat support bracket is bolted to a small piece of plate welded to the water pan setting on top of the cross member for equal weight distribution. This allows for individual slat removal / swapping / cleaning. Like posted above your material is less app to bond with the slats if buffered with water due to the rapid cooling effect.
You did good for your hearing impaired customers and good things will result from it..

Re: You CONDUIT!
I understand the fact that a perfect can will hold a lot of weight. once it has a few cuts in the top and a scrap of 3/4" steel is dragged across on its way off, the pop can will be having a bad day as there is a difference between a straight down force on top vs side loading. I drag things around on my table all the time, granted it isn't a plasma cam tho so it is built to take it
No actually I like reading all your ideas Joe, it keeps things interesting. Keep it up!

Re: You CONDUIT!
Yes. You zip tie or tack weld the intersections of the grates around the perimeter intersections. The entire grate is picked up like a waffle, and flipped over as a single wafer, and set back onto the table frame.SegoMan DeSigns wrote: Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:11 pm Question on your slats Joe,

I have NEVER heard of that being a problem.Your slats are straight which can lead to an early demise with a rip cut over the top of them.
I have never heard of material shifting on the straight grid of grate slats. The two major advantages to the curved slats:
1- they are wedged into place (less chance of material wobble)
2- the rip cut won't split them. I would also do a more pronounced tooth if room allows it, as they stay cleaner longer and the cut material is cleaner on the bottom.
