Hi all. I have a job for a customer making a sign of which part if it involved replicating a car from a photo provided. I have traced the image and think it has come out ok.
Is anyone able to tell me if you think this will cut ok and if this is the best way to set the sign up to make the car stand out? Customer doesn't want a layered sign though so that option is ruled out. The part I'm not 100% sure on is the detail lines. It is a decent sized sign so do you think I need to make these detail lines wider or just cut them as an open path?
Any advice would be great.
Cheers

What size is the sign? That will determine the specifics of the details.

At a kerf width of 0.037", I think it is your call. Assuming your file is the actual size, and your cutter has a 0.050" kerf width, then cutting them as you have drawn will certainly make them more visible than it you cut as single lines. You could make them wider if you wish to have them stand out more - visibility wise. Nice job on your manual trace! What program are you using?

Re: Ford 5 Window coupe
Hi David,
Yes the sign size will be the actual size in the svg file 2000x1000mm. I used inkscape to trace it.
So whats the smallest kerf width the fine-cut consumable can make using a hypertherm 45xp when cutting 1.6mm corten?
I'm thinking due to the decent size of the sign to maybe increase the details lines to around 2mm? Do you think this will look ok?

Here are the charts for estimated kerf width.
David
I would figure around 0.045" kerf width. You could do a test cut and find out exactly what it is for your setup.David

For detail lines of 2mm width (0.080") just single lines won't achieve that width. So I suppose go with your original design using closed paths to end up with the width you want.
