Some mounts we made for heavy chain
2” thick AR 400 cut on our table. Power max 85. They are mounts for holding chain to help stabilize smaller logs in a bypass clam on a log loader. The outside edges on the larger pieces I faced in the mill after cutting, the smaller rounded piece is just as it came off the table, no grinding other than a touch on the backside to take off the slag that didn’t come off with hammer, the edges are untouched. That’s some heavy cutting at 2.5 ipm. Not sure that Hypertherm had this in mind when they made the 85?... Glad it is not sync because running arc stretch like this can eat tips nicely.

I agree - those are some very impressive cuts on that thick material using you PM85. And also with your assessment of the better economics of the Duramax consumables vs. the Sync cartridges for your particular application.

Yes AMAZING cuts!
2.5 IPM is definitely a crawl, but must be the sweet spot based on your pics..

Now that you did 2" with your 85 I will have to find some 2-1/2" to tryout the 105 on

Go for it. I would not say the edge was great at all, but at least it was better than hand cutting with oxyfuel.

Cutnweld - just curious how long (how many cut inches) your nozzle and electrode lasted cutting that thickness of material? I have a Powermax 85 on my cnc table - but have mainly used it for materials 1/2" and under for my hobby purposes.cutnweld wrote: Tue Sep 19, 2023 11:51 am Go for it. Thanks,

Re: Some mounts we made for heavy chain
I am not sure, David. I put in 2 or 3 nozzles to do that. 74 minutes cutting total. Its almost as bad as dry firing the torch because the top steel blows away and the bottom can hardly be reached, really hard on stuff.

Thanks for the information! I guess it's still cheaper to just replace nozzles than the entire cartridge is this were the sync system.cutnweld wrote: Wed Sep 20, 2023 2:11 pm I am not sure, David.
