VERY nice! Amazing in fact!

I was going to buy a 2x72, but they are quite expensive, and have been trying to make do with my crappy 1x30... but it's finally given up on me!

I've been looking at these instructions - https://knife-grinders.co.uk/2x72-belt- ... r-at-home/ but yours seem really good! So, think I'll be following your info!

Cheers!

I have built 3 of the 2' X 72" belt grinders but I used the Jeremy Schmidt plans and would highly recommend them.
here is my post about the build. Sold 2 of them to Knife guys, they are happy :Yay

Jeremy Schmidt has some great Youtube videos. I haven't watched him in a while, but I did see the one where he built the belt sander (he called it a "grinder"). I had never heard of an Arduino or G-Shield until I saw his video on the small cnc router he built. I learned a lot from that one, and ended up building something similar using the Arduino with GRBL. This is the small machine I built several years ago in photo.

I finished the belt grinder, used power coating for the covering on the grinder. Fun project and a very handy tool to have in the shop. I sold the other 2 to knife guys for their shops.

As side note I needed to have a way to remove the larger parts from my powder coating oven (its horizontal loaded) so I welded up an attachment for a floor jack. they are 400 degrees coming out of the oven. To much fun in the shop :HaHa

Fireball tools is quite the entrepreneur, he started out in a small shop with a few tools and has grown into a large business. Like others on this site he is paying it forward showing others how to build things. It's scary how many schools no longer have any type of building trades or wood / mechanical shops. It's almost like that does not exist why do we need to teach that?

Tom - that would most certainly be a fun project, and I do like the capability of rotating it on its side. I remember seeing something similar a few years ago advertised on the Trick Tools site, and it was "ultra expensive".

I've already got a small collection of belt sanders that I use quite a bit. In particular I like the Grizzly knife sanders - I bought several of them back around 2017 on sale. So I've pretty much got most of my sanding/grinding needs covered.

I'm new to this form. I like the design of the Sayber OSG belt grinder. Hope there is somebody that can help me? Is there anybody that can send me the dxf files please?

for those who actually cut this out, how did y'all cut the small holes, did y'all set the plasma to just pierce these locations then, came back to drill them out?

That would be one way to do it. Another option would be to use something like the EasyScriber (fits into your plasma torch in place of the consumable stack) and scribe cross hairs to mark each center location for the smaller holes - then come back and drill them.

I use a center punch routine for marking the holes to drill for many projects. I have a tool for SheetCam which is a very short plasma blast to dimple the metal positioned in the DXF file. Then follow up with a center drill to start the holes for drilling with the finished dimensions. Here are 2 videos showing that process the last is cutting parts for the 2X72 grinder. I have built 5 with the parts for another in the shop now. :Like Ihave used this process on 3 different tables with different controller software, the last being LinuxCNC which can be run as a single operation for center punching then cutting. :Yay
