Sailboat - First Share
Hey folks, this is a sailboat design that I did for a friend. I will be cutting this for him and he is mounting it a wooden background for a decoration at his boat slip. I am not a skilled designer so I am fairly proud of this despite any errors there may be, just thought I would share it in hopes someone else can use it.

That is a great drawing! How large will it be when it is cut out?

Thanks Joe, appreciate that coming from a guy with your design knowledge. The plan to to try and get it cut at 13.5" but if things get too close with the detail I will scale it up as little as possible to make it work. Looks like 13.5" will work using my Finecut nozzles from minimum kerf width. What do you think?

13" tall is a bit small for this design. Shown below, is a kerf width of .080" and the round pierce points. The design will fall apart as cut paths crash into each other.
You will either need to make it larger, or figure out a way to get a VERY NARROW cut path out of your plasma cutter.
This design would work well for a laser, but a plasma cutter is like signing a check with a fat magic marker. In order to READ the signature, the signature needs real estate.

Even at 18" tall with a thin .060" kerf width, this photo will be the result.
I would not cut this boat much less than 26" tall.
Either that, or move/remove some of the detail.
Alternately, you could use an ENGRAVER to add in the fine detail that is not cut through the steel.

Thanks for the tip Joe. I need to keep it around 14" tall so I will edit some of the interior detail using your image as reference for the near interference spots.Joe Jones wrote: Tue May 28, 2024 11:37 am Even at 18" tall with a thin .060" kerf width, this photo will be the result.

You could always use a HAND engraver! Everything does not need to be "cnc."

Here are some gifts I made for my nephews several years ago. One of them is entirely engraved, and the other has the internal features engraved with the outer perimeter plasma cut. You could use some combination of these two techniques to achieve your desired result at the smaller size you want.05Duramax wrote: Tue May 28, 2024 10:37 am Hey folks, this is a sailboat design that I did for a friend. I appreciate the tips guys! Good ideal adding some material to strengthen the mast David
I intend to plasma cut everything, I have an EasyScriber and thought about using it but for this project I think cutting everything will look better especially when its installed on the wood surface that will serve a backdrop.
Thanks gain guys, much appreciated.

I think all of the other details will cut fine, particularly if you are using FineCut consumables for the plasma cutting. I will look forward to seeing your finished project.
